Next time you tell your sibling, cousin, neighbor or dog to “be good,” you can have the data to back it up. The benefits of altruism range from improved health to worker retention, and do-gooders have created not only hashtags but also companies.
You might not realize, for example, that a simple “thank you” can help improve sleep and lower blood pressure. Or that there have been more than 7.8 million tweets since August 2014 mentioning and consequently bringing awareness to #Ferguson. And, that more than 60 million people volunteered during the span of a year.
