The Australian government has renewed its push to get the controversial metadata retention bill through parliament as soon as possible, despite pleas from privacy advocates and security experts for the government to substantially rewrite the proposed laws.
On Thursday morning, Prime Minister Tony Abbott outlined instances where metadata retention had assisted the government in stopping terror-related incidents from occurring and the need for strict data-retention laws in Australia for the purpose of national security.
