A huge blizzard is battering New England on Tuesday, even as the blizzard warning has been canceled for New York. Thousands of flights are canceled, schools are closed throughout the region and travel bans are in effect. Follow along live as we cover the blizzard's track.

Blizzard warning is canceled for New York City

The blizzard warning issued Monday for New York City has been canceled by the National Weather Service and downgraded to a winter storm warning, which it says is in place until midnight EST.



It's forecasting severe winter weather and says:



“Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel keep and extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”



The NWS is, however, saying that blizzard conditions will continue across Connecticut and Long Island Tuesday, with snow accumulations of 12 to 16 inches and gusts of up to 45 mph.

Public transport services in New York are still suspended, however the MTA was able to see the brighter side:

Warnings of storm surges in Massachusetts as high tide approaches

The National Weather Service in Boston is advising that there’s already a 3-foot storm surge with high tide in the next hour.

The surge is being helped by high seas of about 20 feet just a few miles outside of Boston Harbor.

Eyewitness reports showed waves already breaching sea walls.

The NWS said coastal flooding and severe beach erosion was expected Tuesday morning until 7 a.m. and again in the afternoon and early evening until 7 p.m. along the eastern Massachusetts Coast including Cape Cod and Nantucket.
