Obama announces historic change to U.S.- Cuba relations

In a historic speech on Wednesday, President Barack Obama said the United States and Cuba are poised to resume diplomatic relations after a freeze that has lasted more than half a century


“Neither the American or Cuban people are served by a rigid policy that is rooted in events that occurred before most of us were born," Obama said



The new policy will relax travel and trade restrictions between the two countries, and the U.S. will set up an embassy in the Cuban capital of Havana. Cuba, which has an Internet penetration rate of only 5%, will also allow telecommunication companies to build Internet infrastructure there. Read more...
