Survey: If you want satisfaction, buy a hammer

We seem to spend our entire waking lives on social media, but we’re not that happy with the experience. We like our gadgets, outfits and booze a whole lot more.


That’s the upshot, anyway, of a new YouGov BrandIndex study that rates 43 categories of consumer goods and services, finding that home improvement stores, tools and hardware have the highest satisfaction rankings and erectile dysfunction pharmaceuticals land near the bottom of the list. The study polled 400,000 consumers over three months in late summer and early fall to find out how pleased they were or weren’t with everything from fast food to amusement parks to hair care products. Generally “embattled” industries like consumer banks, wireless providers, cable and satellite TV, and property and casualty insurance had the lowest satisfaction scores. Read more...
