Baby gorilla crushed to death in freak accident at San Francisco Zoo

Mere months after her first birthday, a baby gorilla at the San Francisco Zoo was crushed to death by a hydraulic door.

Kabibe, or "little lady" in Swahili, was killed when she ran under the closing door as zoo staff moved animals to their night quarters on Friday, the zoo said in a statement released Saturday

There was much fanfare at the zoo when Kabibe was born, as well as when the public got to see her for the first time in December and giver her a name. Her moniker was selected by a public vote, with Kabibe winning out over Malaika, which means "heavenly messenger" in Swahili, and Kenura, which means "joy" in Kikuyu, according to NBC. Read more...
