8,000 glowing balloons sent into night sky for stunning Berlin Wall event

Creating a stunning spectacle in the night sky, 8,000-LED illuminated balloons were released in Germany's capital on Sunday night to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.


As part of a visual art installation, the city mounted the balloons onto carbon fiber poles along 10 miles of the border that used to separate communist East Berlin from democratic West Berlin during the Cold War. Starting shortly after 7 p.m., local time, each balloon was untied, and sent into the air. The ascent lasted approximately 25 minutes. Fireworks then followed
