Ukraine's New 'War Heroes' Waste No Time Seeking Political Office
KIEV, Ukraine –-As a journalist, Mustafa Nayyem investigated and exposed the shadowy underworld of Ukrainian oligarchs.
As a civic activist, he is credited with helping ignite the Euromaidan Revolution that ousted the government in February.
Now, Nayyem, a 33-year-old who often dons a T-shirt with the words "Ukraine –- Fuck Corruption," wants to change the system from within, hoping to trade in his proverbial pen and signboard for a seat in parliament.
"I see a window of opportunity…to go inside and change something," said Nayyem, who is running on the ticket of the president’s party, the aptly named Bloc of Petro Poroshenko.
