Senior Australian Islamic State recruiter reportedly killed in Middle East

SYDNEY — A senior Australian Islamic State recruiter has reportedly been killed in the Middle East.


ABC News reported on Wednesday, Mohammad Ali Baryalei, who recruited dozens of Australians to Syria and Iraq, is believed to have been dead for four or five days.


Baryalei is the mastermind behind the plot to behead random members of the public in Sydney in September, according to government officials. The plot resulted in massive terror raids across Sydney and Brisbane.


The 33-year-old, who migrated from Afghanistan as a child, left Australia to fight with ISIS in April 2013. Before he left, he was an actor in the popular Underbelly: The Golden Mile television series while also working as a bouncer in Sydney's Kings Cross district. Read more...
