Report: Apple TV Could Be HomeKit's Hub for Smart Home Devices

Apple TV may end up being the hub for HomeKit, Apple's smart-home platform that will allow people to control home functions, like opening the garage door, turning lights on and off and adjusting your home's temperature.


AppleInsider reports that the latest beta software for Apple TV "can be used for testing AirPlay and HomeKit with your iOS apps," officially bringing HomeKit support to Apple's streaming set-top box.



If you were to log into iCloud on an Apple TV, you can register it as a "potential remote access peer" for HomeKit, according to the report. That means information from smart home devices will likely sync with Apple TV. Plus, using Apple TV as a remote access peer would enable you to control connected HomeKit accessories while out of the house. Read more...
