Hong Kong Protesters Still Very Polite, But the Mood Turns Bitter
HONG KONG — The pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong are as colorful and polite as ever. Their sprawling site outside government offices in the area of Admiralty has turned into an encampment of bright green, blue, yellow, orange tents. Cheerful origami umbrellas are everywhere.
But in the past few days, the mood around the protests, which are now well into their third week, has turned decidedly more bitter – and a solution to the stand-off still seems far off.
The police, who had been keeping a low profile since late September, have since Monday taken a different tack. They are gradually pushing in on the space occupied by the protesters in various parts of this bustling city, removing barricades at the fringes of the protest sites. Read more...
