Cyclone Named After the State Bird of Israel Is About To Hit India

Tropical Cyclone Hudhud is slowly strengthening in the Bay of Bengal — a region that has brewed some of nature's deadliest tropical storms on record — and is moving toward the north Andhra Pradesh coast of India. Forecasts show the storm making landfall on Saturday or early Sunday India time as a Category 2 or 3 storm, near the city of Visakhapatnam

The cyclone's name comes from the national bird of Israel, known as the Hoopoe bird there, that is found throughout Africa and Eurasia, the Times of India reported. The newspaper said the government of Oman nominated Hudhud, which is the Oman translation of the bird's name, for the list of 2014 storm names.
