Airbnb will begin collecting occupancy taxes on behalf of its San Francisco hosts on Oct. 1, the company announced Wednesday
Guests who book on the site on or after Oct. 1 will see a line item on their bill for the city's Transient Occupancy Tax, currently 14% of the rental rate. The tax applies to bookings of fewer than 30 days.
Earlier this year, the company announced its plans to collect taxes usually targeted at hotels for listings in some municipalities. In July, it began collecting hotel taxes of 11.5% on listings in Portland. The rate of taxes levied on short-term rentals are determined by local and regional governments. Read more...
