Amazon Escalates Its War of Words With Hachette
Amazon wants to enlist you in its fight against Hachette
In an open letter posted late Friday night, the Amazon Books team framed its ongoing dispute with Hachette as being about stopping the publisher from overcharging for books. Amazon then took the unusual step of revealing the email address of Hachette CEO Michael Pietsch, encouraging readers to share their complaints with him directly.
"We recognize that writers reasonably want to be left out of a dispute between large companies. Some have suggested that we 'just talk.' We tried that," Amazon's team wrote in the letter. "Hachette spent three months stonewalling, and only grudgingly began to even acknowledge our concerns when we took action to reduce sales of their titles in our store." Read more...
