Typhoon Rammasun strengthened on Monday, becoming a more formidable threat to the northern Philippines, before it makes landfall in either southern China or northern Vietnam on July 18

As of 4 p.m. ET, Typhoon Rammasun, which is a Thai word for "thunder god" and is also known as Typhoon "Glenda," had maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, with higher gusts

However, satellite imagery, as well as sea-surface temperatures and light winds in the upper levels of the atmosphere, suggest the storm could intensify much more than forecast, posing a significant threat to the Philippines
