Scientists have discovered the fossil remains of a flying bird that puts all other birds to shame
With a wingspan of about 21 feet or more, Pelagornis sandersi graced the skies 25 million years ago. Researchers say it is the largest flying bird ever found — twice as big as any flying bird today, including the wandering albatross, which has a wingspan of up to 11.5 feet
Pelagornis sandersi was extremely fast, flying at speeds of up to 56 feet per second, and had sharp pseudo-teeth used for piercing prey. It could also fly long distances without losing altitude. Read more...
