Add This Squatter in California to the List of Airbnb Horror Stories
As the number of people who use Airbnb to list and rent lodging grows, so do the horror stories. The latest is from Palm Springs, California, where a squatter is occupying a 600-square-foot condo reserved through the apartment-rental website.
The owner of the rental, Cory Tschogl, is a rehabilitation therapist who lives in the Bay Area, and purchased the condo as an investment. She has listed it on Airbnb and FlipKey since last fall.
Earlier this year, a verified Airbnb user by the name of Maksym reserved the condo for 44 days, from May 25 to July 8, 2014 at $450 per week. After 30 days — Airbnb collects monthly payments for longterm reservations — Maksym stopped paying for the condo, and the company reimbursed Tschogl for the remaining two weeks of his reservation.
